Writing alternative versions of well known stories is always intersting - and I particularly enjoyed writing Maximus and the Beanstalk.

The excellent illustrations for 'Maximus and the Beanstalk' have been done by Spanish comic book artist, David Lopez.

I always felt that Jack was not really the good boy that he is made out to be. After all, he doesn't do what Mum tells him to do and then he steals things from the giant's house. I felt a bit sorry for the giant and I thought it would be good to show the giant as a really nice boy.

I had fun inventing things like the horrible food that Max eats, and changing "fee fi fo fum" to "ow my sore thumb". I wanted young readers to be able to still recognise the original story so I kept the gold coins, the goose and the singing harp - but they all mean something to Max.

What would you do to make Jack and the Beanstalk different?
